Let the Games Begin

Iskander's ears swivelled, but he kept silent. Sol'Lux's "hospitality" had made him wary, at least of the older generations. He kept his eye on the matches being fought, being no stranger to this kind of entertainment.

"Well I'm going to be one of the best fighters out there, born to or not." Zephyr pipped up in a determinted voice.

"Self belief is important, just make sure it doesn't grow into overconfidence. Look at Phoenicia, that's exactly what happened." said Zil and flown over to his family. "I have to admit i am surprised to see you here." said Sol'Lux. "Hey, there's no one but guards home." he went to whispering, "Who's the champ?" "Wouldn't you like to know!" she said out loud, "Not telling ya, at least you'll have to be here to the end to find out." she said and laid her head on his shoulder.

"Don't you remember?" Shya-tael asked Starlight with a grin, lying down to watch the next battle. "The first day in the arena at battle training camp, that earth dragon was the first one to take you on. I'm surprised he still remembers you," she remarked, her gaze drifting towards Phoenicia. "It's too bad she didn't make it further. It would've made things much more interesting."
Shya paused, smiling sheepishly and placing a hand on her own cheek. "That came out sounding a tad more insensitive than I meant it to."
Her name was suddenly called, the syllables ringing out across the arena, and Shya stood with relief. "Hope to see you in the final match, all right?"

[Midnightmoon]

"Oho, heh, that explains a bunch. Well at least he's not so cocky any more." Starlight said in a light thoughtful tone. "Of course, I would be a bit sad if you weren't there." She added. "So I guess that's everyone except Ivy then. Too bad you came in late, Zil. It would have been fun to spar again."

"I think i'd run." said Zil, watching the large chunks of ice still on the arena floor. "I don't like to fight until it's absolutely necessary." "Wuss!" said Phoenicia and Sol'Lux simultaneously. He took Phoenicia and tossed her on Sol'Lux, sending them both to the ground, unable to get up by laughing. "See? Like now. Necessity."

[Midnightmoon]

"Now come on, you more fun then that." Starlight said with a whine, though she laughed along with everyone else. Turning back to the arena she was till chuckling.

"You think so? Then why have i been in the fortress through the disease? I'm more then happy to leave the fighting to the others. I had enough of it in my life already. Some of us didn't exactly evade the war you know." pointed Zil out and faced the arena.

[Kauria]

Shya swiped forward with both claws, snarling in frustration as the silver air dragon whirled away from the blow. Most of the battle had gone like this, and his dodging was getting annoying.
The fire dragoness slid to a stop, breathing heavily as she glared up at her opponent. He came to a gentle, graceful landing on his hind legs a short distance away, his chest barely rising with the effort of flight. He's just going to keep dragging this out until I can't fight properly anymore, she thought, her face twisting into a grimace.
The other dragon dropped forward onto three legs, an invisible whirlwind gathering in his free hand. Shya threw herself to the side just in time, wincing as she felt the blast of air slice past her ear. The silver dragon shot forward, ramming into Shya while she was still off-balance. With a determined roar, the fire dragoness planted her feet into the ground, her claws leaving deep white gouges on the charred floor of the arena.
The air dragon slashed her face and drew away a step, throwing himself at her side again in another attempt to force her to the ground. Shya reeled back, one hand pressed over the row of scarlet scratches beneath her eye. Her opponent slammed into her shoulder and she could feel his claws digging eagerly into her back.
Shya's orange eyes narrowed in pain, and her mind flashed back to something Starlight had said earlier that day. Let's see if that idea of yours is worth anything after all, she thought, focusing on something just beyond her opponent. She snapped at the air dragon, and her nearly-imperceptible hand motions went unnoticed when he dodged her jaws.
It's amazing that I still remember how to do this. A growl rumbled within her chest, and Shya roared deafeningly. An unearthly echo like the howl of a blazing forest fire responded from behind the other contestant.
He turned, and a dragon made of nothing but flames lunged at his throat.
Shya dove forward, rolling behind the air dragon. Columns of fire erupted in a circle around him, and the frantic air dragon realized the distraction, turning to face the calmly-standing dragoness. At the snap of Shya's fingers, the decoy dragon vanished in a whirl of ash.
"No dodging now," she hissed, leaping through her pillars of fire. She caught the air dragon on the side of the head with a broad-clawed blow, and then followed with a burning punch to the stomach. She slammed a hand on the back of his neck and shoved him into the ground. He made no further struggle, and the bars of fire sputtered out around them.
Shya gave a weak smile when her victory was announced, then staggered and collapsed, drained by her elemental use.

"Woot Woot. Way to go Shya. You go girl. Woot Woot." Starlight whooped. "Can you two help me bring her back up here?" She asked Sol'Lux and Zil, gliding down herself.

Sol'Lux waited for the other two to gather around Shya. Then she snickered, snapped her fingers and teleported her to her place if front of the two. Phoenicia broke into laughter. "Necessity." said Zil to Starlight, pointed at Sol'Lux and charged. The two collided and took off, heading for the higher branches, punching on all sides. Sol'Lux managed to break free and headed up, dodging the inferno Zil was sending after her, occasionaly firing a laser behind. They reached the top, where Sol'Lux took a handful of her pre-made snowballs and fired. "Direct hit!" she said when Zil dug out of the snow. She quickly packed another round and headed down. "One down, one to go!" she said, spinning and tossing the snowballs on Starlight.

[Midnightmoon]

Starlight barrel rolled easily dodging the balls. Then she lifted her arms with a grin, and when they came down again a large mound of snow from the top of the tree behind Sol'Lux came down on the yellow dragons head. "You know, this would be a whole lot funner back at Frozen Lake. It would last longer too considering that there is a whole lot more snow." Starlight said happily.

Gorn yawned after the last battle. "Man, these things are fun to watch a first, but now im really bored." He looked around and then saw the so called 'smart dragons'. Gorn was easily the better of all of them, but he was interested in what they were working on. "Hey Isk, wanna see what the scientist dragons are up to? Bet we could help them with what they're making."

[Morty]

Iskander clapped furiously after Shya-Tael's battle. "That was spectacular! I'm glad I didn't join the arena. I would have--Ehh... What?" he looked over at Gorn. "Okay. Let's see what we can do." he said gladly, trotting over to where these 'brainiacs' were chilling. "Dunno how I'd be able to help, though." he muttered, tail swishing thoughtfully.

"Dont worry, ill take care of the dirty work, you stand there and pretend you know whats going on." Gorn said as they walked over. "Hello fellow geniuses, and what might you be doing today?" Gorn said with a very happy tone. they all looked at him for a sec then turned back to what they where doing. "We're trying to create a way to get water constantly flowing from the top the tree, to the bottom and back up with out having the water dragons continually using their energy." One of them said. "Its for a type of slide we've been working on, you ride the water down and land in a pool of it at the bottom. We believe they will find this enjoy able." Another one added. Gorn thought for a second then smiled. "How much metal do you have? i think i know how to make what your looking for." They looked at him weird. "We have all that we need to make it." They said pointing to a pile of parts. "we just need to figure out how to put it all together." This made Gorn laugh, then walk over to the pile of parts they had. "Give me a few minutes and you'll have your.....what you gonna call this?" "A water pump." "You'll have your water pump up and running. Hey Isk, im gonna need a hand with this, You in?"
