"Hold on a minute," Erasmus said, and Mags galloped ahead to cut off the other pair's progress, rounding to face them on the path. "Are you meaning to say my wife—is she . . . ?"

Oron stopped with a soft jerk, waiting till either Mags moved out of the way or otherwise. Lioh pursed his lips, expression blank, eyes searching Erasmus's. "I don't know," he finally said, "I don't know. From what I've seen I could be just be paranoid after getting shot at, but Light clan is all about imagery. Just wanted to be sure."

Erasmus' mouth came to rest in a reserved line. "All the more reason for us to make haste, then." Mags wheeled away from Oron and continued down the trail at a canter.

Lioh grimaced and Oron started forward again, not gaining momentum till a few long strides later. "That bush has been thouroughly shredded and set ablaze." Oron grunted agreement, then, "At this pace we can make the city by nightfall, but i doubt we won't reach it till late morning." Now Lioh sighed and put on a less dreary face. He doubted that the four of them would be doing much talking for the rest of the trip, but at least he could try to have a less sour demeanour.

"So i've heard that you've been practicing some magic, Rinzler." Alice asked, hiding her eagerness. Once again she appeared to him in a reflection, but this time in his new acomedations. The magical conversion was progressing splendidly, and faster then anticipated. She had her theories as to why this could be but kept them to herself for now, waiting for the evidence to arise on its own. "Tell me; how does it feal to wield the elemental magic your clan is said to fear?"

The sky was stained orange by the time the city came into view, gold reflections playing like firelight off the dragons' scales and rider's faces. The grand walls and arches and walkways of Janahal hunched into a stony silhouette against the desert just visible beyond it. The newest addition to the earth capital, the mighty fortress, loomed above the smaller buildings, giving the impression of both standing apart from and standing watch over the rest of the city. Across the outer ramparts, the glow of torches began to appear here and there. Within the walls, the city readied itself for nightfall. Erasmus lit a flame in the palm of one hand, holding it close to light his face. He cast a glance over his shoulder at the other pairs, Lisim and Jaraen having returned from their advance flight. "We'll be parting ways once we arrive, I imagine," Erasmus said. "Thank you for your company, even if it made things . . . more interesting than expected."

Lioh smiled tiredly, "I'm just sorry it all turned out the way it did. Maybe we'll see each other once again with lighter hearts, and play a game of hoops? In any case, i'm sure my ramblings were nothing. Take care, comrades, and may the Lady Luck bless your fortune." Riding up close Lioh reached out to offer a warriors handshake of Erasmus.

A fire ball splashed on the mirror. Not nearly strong enough to break or melt it, but in time, it will get there. "They fear many things, but inferiors are not among them." Rinzler barked back, his palm slowly ceasing to smoke. "Anyway, i feel restless. I do not know if my mind wants to go out there to test your 'gift', or simply go out there and kill something in any way possible." He looked directly at the mirror. "How long do you intend to keep us locked up? If we want to escape you, delaying it won't help you. Though to be honest, i am..." He spent a second looking at his hand, "--- satisfied with your work." he said, feeling kinda tired from talking that much. Talking was usually his bond's domain.

"Glad you think that way." Alice said, allowing a small smile, then added. "And about the ither thoughts... why don't we fix that?" She turned around, her back to the room. "You may appreciate our workings, but there is someone who wants to tear it all down before it can become something greater. We've already tried to interecept his word on several acounts but he's resilient." She looked over her shoulder to Rinzler, giving him a meaningful look, "We have one last shot. What say you, Rinzler?"

Erasmus shifted his reins in one hand and reached over with the other to shake Lioh's hand, his grip firm. "We won't be leaving just yet. After that trip, however short, I'd much rather spend a night safe in bed than crossing the desert. Is there anyplace we can stay in the city?"

"The Crytstal Inn. The best place in town and the owner's a friend. She and her husband will treat you well." Lioh responded without hesitation. "Other then that i'd say keep your heads down. This should all settle soon enough." Letting go Lioh indicated Oron to head for the large guard outpost.

"If you point me to a head that sticks out, i'll be too happy to cut it, but if it is of such importance, Marrick needs to be present to work out a plan. I only have one question: How many of them?" he said, throwing a pebble and hitting two lined up candles with a single toss.

Erasmus slumped into bed, feeling the muscles in his back relax from the tension that had kept him alert for the last day and a half. He ground the heels of his hands against his eyes and listened to Lisim unpacking the few items they'd need. "Sorry for not helping," Erasmus sighed. "I'm spent." He heard the rustle of a brush being pulled through tangled hair. "It's fine," Lisim said, sounding amused. "I'm still physically capable of finding a change of clothes." The rustling stopped, and a weight sank onto the other side of the bed. "You, however, might want to get your left side looked at before you try anything more. Especially that leg. It's probably covered in bruises by now." Erasmus winced at the reminder of the ache that ran from shoulder to ankle. He cracked open an eye. "I got some healing when the water elf fixed Mags' wing. The rest will be fine on its own." He hoped. The need for sleep was overwhelming any other desire at the moment. Lisim's weight left the bed again, and, after a moment, she reappeared by his side. The moonlight from the crystal window glanced off something sharp and metallic in her hand, and alarm jolted Erasmus into awareness. "Wha—" "Shh. I'm putting it in this drawer, okay?" She slid the breadknife into the nightstand beside him. "Just in case. Good night. Well, sort of. The sun'll be rising in a few hours, but no one says we need to get up then." Lisim pecked her husband on the forehead and climbed into her side of the bed. Erasmus was too awake to sleep, his thoughts forming a buzzing disquiet that would not leave him in peace. He had to tell her what Lioh and Oron had told him. "Lisim?" he asked to the darkness. "Mmm?" "There's something—" he paused, turning the earth pair's words over in his head. What would it help any of them if Lisim knew her clan was responsible for so much trouble? Worse yet, what if she already knew? "—I . . . oh, never mind," the fire elf mumbled. "Good night." "G'night." Good night, Mags. See you in the morning, 'Ras.

"Just a pair, which is why it's so frustrating for us. Our intel informs us that he's heading for Janahal, capital of the earth domain. Any city is bad but for him to head for a capital is worse." Alice fadded out of the reflection. The door unlocked and opened with a whisper and she walked in in person. "My bond is meeting with yours. We will be heading for the exit and leaving imidiately. Will the journey north prove to be enough time for your two to figure out a plan?"

"Done." Was the only thing Rinzler said, turning halfway to the door out: "You did keep my gear, right?" he said, preferring to go in with weapons he knew the balance and other properties of. With any luck, they'll take them out from a distance and go home.
Meanwhile, Marrick was listening to the objective. "They're using a public road and you couldn't get to them? Well, assuming long range attack fails or is impractical altogether, i may know of a mercenary group we could hire to play highwaymen and try to 'rob' them. Judging by the importance of the target, i believe the money won't be a problem?" The former dark dragon grinned. The idea was flawless. "Either the mercs manage to destroy them on their own, or me and Rinzler go in to help them. The mercs should be taken by surprise and out before they rat us out. Then we'll play escort for the targets and, quite literally, kill them in their sleep. And if things still go south, you'll be playing backup. How does that sound?" "Fine by me." said Rinzler, walking from around the corner.

(ooc: there are two different time frames in my mind; the one with Oron and Erasmus, and the second one being with Alice and Rinzler. the first group is one the road still while Alice is talking, but by the time they get there the time lines would have realigned- or at least in my mind is does. sound good?)
"Sounds like a plan. A plan that's more straightforward then I would have anticipated, but a plan none the less." Alice smoothly waltzed over to Vincen and quickly climbed up into the simple saddle. "Of course we kept your gear- would have been wasteful otherwise. We'll take a detour down and then be on our way."
