Ourias' father and mother, respectively. I'm going to play one of them in the new RP, but it's up to you guys to decide which would fit better. Also, some suggestions on class would be nice.
(EDIT: Updated Metrus' abilities and mana costs to reflect his week of recuperation and intensive healing spell tutoring. Life Steal and Heal are now two independent abilities, and I docked the costs of several of his spells because I had meant for him to be able to use them much more freely than their costs permitted. Hopefully, now he can fulfill his role as a support mage/healer better.)
Name: Metrus
Gender: Male
Clan: Shadow
Element: Darkness
Age: 52
Class: Necromancer
Theme: Chasing Death - Soulcalibur II Original Soundtrack
Voice actor: Mark Oliver
Personality: Clever and occasionally deceptive. Uses his powers to implement complex strategies when possible. Usually serious, but anything that gives him a chance to be dramatic (or overdramatic) improves his mood significantly. Given that clan tensions just boiled over into a full-out war, he's uncommonly cheery and is farming the conflict for all the melodrama it's got. Probably not taking things seriously enough anymore.
History: One of the only heirs to a long and distinguished line of shadow dragons. His ancestors once possessed great necromantic power, but it's become watered down through the generations. Nonetheless, many of his relatives are still living (in the loosest sense possible of the word), and the knowledge that they're kind of looking out for him is partly responsible for his recent carelessness.
His mother, Hectel, is a dracolich who is pressuring him to hurry up and find a mate already. [She believes deeply in the power of the elemental dragons, and hopes to see the day Desperanus walks the lands of Dragon-Essence once more. A personal seer has prophesied that her unborn grandchild will one day inherit a portion of Desperanus' power.] Metrus does his best to distance himself from his mother and her nagging whenever possible. Relations between them are fraught with snark, but they actually do care for each other.
Physical Traits: At a glance, Ourias appears to have inherited most of his appearance from his father. Metrus is a medium-sized black dragon, lean and fast. His hands are long-fingered and dexterous. Metrus' wings are short and broad, better suited to swift maneuvering than endurance flight. If pursued by someone he'd rather not fight, he drops below the canopy in a forest (or anyplace with similar obstacles), and weaves quickly between trees to shake his attacker.
He is best at long range, or at short range if undetected.
Metrus' eyes are red. He has two downward-curving horns, and four smaller ones on the crown of his head. He commonly wears jewelry, and is a bit of a hoarder, taking pretty things home when he gets the chance.
img232.imageshack.us/img232/7249/metrus.jpg This'll have to do for now. That's war paint, not markings. (He doesn't naturally look like a Banshee)
On either side of his neck are two membranous frills that run from the base of his horns almost to his shoulders. They normally lie completely flat, but when seeking to appear more intimidating, Metrus can flare them, much like a cobra's hood. Usually dull red or black, but can flush to become crimson.
Abilities:
Passive:
+Night vision: His dark clan heritage allows him to see perfectly in the dark.
+Magic training: Years of having been tutored in spellcasting have increased his mana pool. (+50 mana)
Active:
[Close-Range] Persuasion (5 mana): He makes an undectectable mental suggestion that inclines a subject to do something. They need not follow it.
[Personal] Death's Shroud (5 mana, formerly 10): Metrus cloaks himself in darkness.
[Close-Range] Life Steal (10 - 50 mana, depending on magnitude): Metrus draws on the life energy of another living thing to heal his own wounds or supplement his energy. This only works on things that do not or cannot actively resist its effects, such as plants, unintelligent animals, and mentally weakened or willing intelligent subjects. Weak organisms may die instantly as a result, whereas stronger ones will respond as if injured by a destructive spell. If he does not wish to heal himself, he instead receives a net gain of 5 mana. (He cannot exceed his mana pool of 150 mana) As demonstrated, "willing intelligent subjects" includes himself, though it takes considerable desperation to drive him to it.
[Heal] Heal (10 - 20 mana, depending on severity): Essentially the opposite of Life Steal, Metrus uses his magic to mend injuries, alleviate pain, and seal wounds. It is most effective on shadow dragons.
[Ranged] Shadow beam (15 mana, formerly 20): Beam of dark energy harms opponents. It's sort of a deep glowy maroon, rather than black.
[Mid-Range] Shadow (30 mana, formerly 40): He engulfs the area in total darkness. Only other shadow dragons, or someone with enchanted vision, can see through it. Ordinary light cannot penetrate it. The effect lasts up to an hour, or until Metrus or another spellcaster dispels it.
[Necromantic] Reanimation: Turns a dead body into a zombie servant (10 - 70 mana depending on size and complexity)
[Ultimate] Mental Domination (100 mana): Metrus channels almost all of his energy into crushing an intelligent subject's resistance and takes control of them. A dominated subject cannot resist other abilities, such as life steal.
The exact extent and duration of this effect depend on the subject's age and mental defense experience. It's considerably harder for him to control a mature dragon than a hatchling. At most, this can last a few hours. He must maintain consciousness and concentration to keep control.
Name: Deka
Gender: Female
Clan: Shadow
Element: Darkness
Age: 59
Class: Berserker
Theme: Breath of Life - Florence + The Machine
Personality: Intelligent, determined, too serious, but honest. Deka picks up well on subtle cues in others' behavior that let her glimpse their true intentions. She is perfectionistic, and does not tolerate mistakes easily. It's pretty easy to get on her good side, though, and she can actually be a good friend and a powerful ally.
History: Like Metrus, she is also from a long-standing and powerful line of shadow dragons, magic-based warriors that prided themselves on having kept the family line pure. To everyone else, this means a substantial amount of inbreeding. Don't mention this fact to her if you enjoy your current cranium.
Physical Traits:
img521.imageshack.us/img521/1707/dekaheadshot.jpg That's right, she has arms on her head.
Compared to Metrus, Deka is built like a tank, equally capable of taking a beating and dishing one out. She is best at mid-range battles.
She has small arms on either side of her head, which she mostly uses for manipulating small objects, casting spells, and sometimes holding food when she eats. Though she has no breath weapon, she can open her mouth and position her hands in it to ready a blast of dark energy.
Her actual forefeet are incapable of any hand-like manipulation - no opposable thumbs, and the digits are fused by skin a knuckle more than usual. They are, however, strong and clawed.
Deka's tail splits into two jointed spines at the end, which are joined with webbing and tipped with a venomous stinger each.
Abilities:
Passive:
+Night vision: Her dark clan heritage allows her to see perfectly in the dark.
+Venom resistance: Toxins have a reduced effect on her, thanks to years of her body having produced its own.
+Observant: She can peel away the falseness to the words of all but the most experienced liars.
+Perfectionist: Her determination to better herself has made her diligent and ruthlessly efficient.
Active:
[Ranged] Breath of Darkness (10 mana): Her hands meet between her jaws and form an orb of dark energy to be fired.
[Mid-range] Shadow Blades (15 mana): Shadows in the area become corporeal and slice at an enemy.
[Mid-range] Restraining Order (20 mana): Like Shadow Blades, but the shadows attempt to subdue and ensnare her opponents. (if the blades are already formed, it costs only 5 mana to upgrade the spell)
[Ultimate] Blood of the Ancients (60+ mana): She calls upon her direct lineage to the first great shadow warriors to enter a rage. The tangible shadows form and aid her, and she is able to shrug off attacks that would kill a normal dragon. After exiting her rage, an unknown energy will sustain and heal her if the wounds she suffers will prove lethal.
Aaand now you might understand why Ourias is such a huge disappointment to both families. There are probably huge mistakes that I'm too tired to see, so bear with me please.
