Name: Maela
Race: Demon of the Shadow/Darkness Clan
As a: Bounty Hunter
Gender: Female
Age (human years): 16 at the start of the story. EDIT: (Currently 19)
Dragon: Athvesa
Appearance: Unlike the pureblooded demons in the Darkness Clan, Maela has uncharacteristically dark skin and eyes, but is typical in all other regards. She has large black feathered wings and a narrow whiplike tail. Kind of creepy-looking and extremely light on her feet, even when not in demon form. She is well-adapted to operating in little to no light, but bright light can be rather painful on her eyes.
Demon characteristics: This is a new section I've thought to put in regarding the subtler effects the potion has had on her. These are all the things I plan to put on the DC ref sheet that apply to her.
-Maela stands slightly on her toes, kilted a little forward to compensate for the weight of her wings and her tail.
-Like most demons, she is particularly resistant to ingested toxins, which allows her to eat spoiled food or resist weaker poisons.
-Since she is not the subject of the mind-control serum used in the potion administered to unwilling converts, Maela lacks the certain . . . combustibility seen in the masses of the demon army.
-May suffer from temporary blindness or even retinal scarring if abruptly faced with bright light. Her eyes take a little too long to adjust, and often not enough.
-Cannot use elemental magic as a result of her conversion. She can access her small reserve of innate arcane energy for small non-elemental spells. Athvesa was always the more magical one, anyways.
Fanart: She now has a lovely piece of fanart by Midnightmoon - (link) (Old version - (link))
And another depicting her appearance before the Dark Clan conversion - (link).

And an awesomesaucetastic chibi by Morty - (link) (FLIPPING FANTASTIC)
History: Maela's story is an unusual one. Originally a water elf orphan, she would hire out her tracking services to any who would pay her, regardless of the morality of the task involved. Partly due to her indifference towards unpleasant business, she soon found herself undertaking a variety of illegal assignments presented to her by an unusually wealthy client from the fire clan. After several months of dealing with the noble, he casually mentioned the fabled Darkness Clan, carefully gauging her reaction.
Maela and Athvesa both showed almost unhealthy obsessions with the ancient clan of demons and their way of life. The pair, he decided, were perfect.
In actuality, the fire elf was a half-blooded demon in disguise, sent to observe several young elves and dragons that the elders had determined might be useful to the clan. Maela and Athvesa were two such subjects, and the only ones to live up to expectations. Both were invited to join the clan as Night Hunters, part of a hired team of trackers. However, Maela pushed the offer futher— she would not join unless she could become a demon herself. Her request was granted, but at the expense of her elemental abilities.
Now, years later, she has a new assignment— to track down and control Jackel. The elders determined that the dragon-hybrid's emotions were beginning to jeopardize his original mission, and have sent out several Hunters to keep an eye on him, Maela and Athvesa among them.
Personality: Extremely self-sufficient, Maela doesn't like to rely on others. She can be astonishingly cruel at times, yet can adopt the guise of an innocent water elf at will. She's not particularly fond of Jackel, and believes that the leader of the clan places too much trust in the assassin.
She views humans and half-elves as vastly inferior to elves, dragons, and demons, but she is adept at hiding her hatred, unlike Athvesa.
Nearly illiterate when it comes to reading/writing in the common tongue, but can read and write in the ancient language still used by the dark clan.
Battle Weapons: She prefers to fight on dragonback or on the ground, using a simple spear that she crafted herself.
EDIT: (Now uses a professionally-made halberd with a particularly pointy end.)
For closer combat, she uses a small pair of deer antlers as daggers. Her tail can also be used as a weapon.
Other: She's a tracker and an expert at finding uses for random junk. When she chose to go through the transformation process, she lost all elemental abilities. However, she has learned a simple illusion that allows her to assume the appearance of a normal elf.
EDIT: (Now is capable of a variety of more complex illusions, as well a some on a larger scale.)
She has two of the binding seals used to seal Shadow into sleep, and the elders hope that the magic can affect Jackel as well.
Random Note: Her favorite food is bread. It sounds plain, but when you've scavenged for food as often as she has, bread starts to sound pretty good. Rich food makes her sick.
Name: Athvesa
Gender: Male
Rider: Maela
Apperance: He is large and white, with a broad pair of glittering wings (white outside, icy blue beneath). His forefeet are broad and rather paw-like, so he rarely handles small objects by himself. If Maela isn't around to do it for him, he will use the very tips of his claws.
History: Although he is treated as a member of the Darkness Clan, Athvesa chose not to undergo the transformation process into a shadow dragon, preferring to keep his gleaming scales. EDIT: (He does however, endure the occasional illusion in order to catch opponents off-guard.)
Personality: Extremely vain and potentially a little sadistic. He is openly haughty towards others, particularly humans and some other dragons. Athvesa is extremely cautious and refuses to trust anyone other than Maela. He does seem to idolize Leucrocuta a bit for some reason.
Abilities: He specializes in ice-related magic, and can create weapons and armor from it, although he is capable of simpler water spells. EDIT: (He now can cast durability-enhancing enchantments to make materials stronger.)
Other: Can see in the dark and dispel certain illusions at will. Has an excellent sense of smell.
------
Bond level: Moderate/weak. It takes almost the same amount of time for them to speak mentally with one another as it would to speak aloud. They suffer no significant ill effects from separation, although both would rather not be apart too long. They cannot easily sense if the other is in pain or danger, although they can communicate emotions mentally. If one of them is killed, the other is likely to survive the separation shock (he or she might still go crazy from it), but it's improbable that a half-dragon will be produced.
Equipment EDIT
Maela and Athvesa have both received equipment upgrades. Athvesa commissioned the work just before the failed attack on the old rebel base, although most of the pieces have only just now been finished.
Maela's new equipment:
— Her halberd was reforged. It is now made of a stronger mixture of metals and possesses three mostly-permanent enchantments. The first is a spell of fortification, which also serves to increase the halberd's durability. The second is a series of etchings around the end of the shaft, a spell of ownership. It temporarily disables the third enchantment if someone other than Maela tries to wield it. The last enchantment is a rune carved onto the axe-blade itself. It glows ice-blue in battle and freezes on contact with flesh with a cold so fierce it burns.
— Her gloves were the main other upgrade, but she has since destroyed them. Black leather with a delicate line of blue runes woven along the edges, these gloves increased her connection with Athvesa. A symbol was woven into the palm of each hand, and allowed her to draw on her dragon's elemental power. Through these gloves she could freeze and manipulate water to a limited extent, but doing so sapped Athvesa's reserves and interrupted his ability to use his element or any sort of magic.
— She wears a tunic of strong, lightweight chainmail under her outer layer of clothing. It can block a light blade, but it will still leave her bruised from the force of the blow. She alternates this with her more durable plate mail. Formerly completely black, it now has the blue trim as well.
— Maela's cape was tailored to match her gloves and tunic. It is simply black with a line of runes running along its fringe. These runes, however, are not magical in nature. It is a modified version of the demon script, and the words are lyrics to an old elven song about war and victory.
— Her tunic is simple black cloth with blue trim. Athvesa wanted a white dragon rampant across the chest, but he couldn't get permission from the Master, so it remains blank.
Athvesa's new equipment:
— Yeah, the armor's the only thing new with him. Dragon armor and all that. Yup.
It has slits in the helmet that can slide closed to protect his eyes, although it does limit his range of view.
