Blaze looked all around him. There were so few dragons following him. But they were all that were left. They were the remnants of all of the clans. For some reason, they all treated him as if he was in charge. Blaze wasn't used to it. For months now they had been living in the wild. Blaze knew how to do that. He had done it once before. He could do it again. Blaze tried not to think of those painful memories. The screams of all those who had been hurt sounded in his ears. Enough, it was time they got moving again.

Rothia silently follows the other dragons. When they stop, he stops. He wonders what they're doing...

Blaze notices an ice dragon that seems to be alone in the group. Blaze walks up to him. He says to the dragon "Why are you not traveling with some friends?"

Rothia didn't know he was noticed until a gold dragon came up to him. He couldn't speak because he felt ashamed.

Blaze saw that the young ice dragon was ashamed of something. But what? Had he done something wrong? Blaze was unused to being in charge and so often made mistakes, and people thought he was rebuking them when he asked questions that he wanted sincere answers to. "I'm sorry if I did something wrong." Blaze started. "Please tell me what you are so ashamed of."

The dragon still didn't answer. It was as if something was wrong...and horribly wrong.

"What's wrong, have you lost your family or friends, I am new at being in charge, so just pretend that I am a normal, everyday dragon, and please talk to me. That is, if you can." Blaze said.

Rothia shook his head. "I have no friends, and no family." He shuts his eyes as a teardrop falls from it.

Blaze answers,"I am sorry, I meant no offense. I too know what it is like to not have a family. The only beings that have ever shown me kindness and mercy are all dead." Blaze thought of all of those beings. There were the dragons from the fire clan. They had taken him in when he was nearly dead from hunger and exhaustion. There were others, but one stood out more than any other. The human.

The shadow watched the short and irritatingly friendly conversation. She blinked and snorted silently, twitching her shell-like ears. Her leathery wings were folded tight to her bodice and her tail was limp across the ground. "Pity..." MonĂ¡ria growled, padding a few paces into the open light, her pitch and lilac scales glowing a little and her tail lifting as she walked so as not to dirty it. Her purple and black eyes were inexpressive and her voice was emotionless and plain as it carried from her chest, rising and falling with her every breath. "Hhmmmrph," she snorted again, meaning nothing by it besides showing her indifference to their presence. Her gaze wandered over them as she awaited to see what sort of reply she would receive.

Rothia groans. "My home was destroyed in a suicide fight. My parents were killed trying to defend me. I got caught-" his voice got a bit wobbly"-in a fight myself. We both got out of it battered. I had to leave, but I saw the destruction of my home, and it was one of my friend's fathers. He killed himself." Rothia stopped. It was true that it was too cruel for him to bear the pain that ripped through his heart like a claw slashing at one's throat.

Blaze was silent for a moment, then he said, "I never had a family, only a human boy who watched over me as a hatchling. But when his family found out, they murdered him, and threw me off a cliff. I was lucky. An updraft of hot air caught my wings. I used it to escape. Since then I have been on my own, well that is until I came here." Blaze thought of that boy for a moment. The way that he looked after Blaze. Blaze still felt like there was a hole in his heart where the boy should be.

"Then we have both felt great sorrow." It was real soft so only Blaze could hear him.

Blaze answered just as quietly. "Yes we both have, but many more have felt it because of the war. And I'm sure that many others will still fill it as a result of the war. That is the reason I planned the escape, so that at least some could escape the thing that we have felt. The ultimate sorrow of having everything you love torn from you."

"Then shall we leave?" Rothia seems to want to leave and talk about it on the way through.
