Update #1: Future chapters
Ok, call dibs on future chapters as you like. Since it seems like noone wants 2 i'm gonna take it but try to be creative You can govern it however you like (EG command style roleplay Morty proposed and stuff) so use it for experiments, maybe something will be good enough to employ in the future
#1: Survival instincts - Story chapter
#2: Zenith - Nohiki
#3: ?? - Morty

Update #2: Information dossier 1
No character originating on the Croatoan is permitted to act on this information. Characters from outter universe can act on this intel unless told otherwise.
Croatoan is a mothership of a rebel fraction of the Federation, hence it's size, armaments and research facilities. It might be the most powerful ship in known universe, it might be not, but it's powerful none the less.
The faction is trying to take rule of the federation through deception rather than violence. They have some sort of yet unrevealed plan how to do so which was being conducted on the Croatoan, before the Feds found it and attacked it, effectively ending the experiment, but chasing the undefeated ship ever since (that is until recently when the federal battleship was disabled)
Update #3: The Ship
Per Morty's question, here's how Croatoan looks like:

Update #4: The Unity
Here is what will be the main antagonist. The big ship that has been chasing the Croatoan since the crew can remember. It was hurt badly when the Croatoan unexpectedly struck, but will recover. Meet the Unity:

nohiki.ic.cz/files/BZRPG/unity2.png
Unity is about 50% longer than Croatoan, has about twice as much armaments, but it's armor is paper thin by comparasm, Unity is very sluggish and can't land.
Update #5: Information dossier 2
After defeating the Unity at the end of chapter three, the Croatoan is following a set of coordinates received from another rebel ship. Ship still isn't fully operational, one engine and the main weapon are still out.
It is obvious to the crew that their fraction in the war is pretty much done, but as they never seen themselves as it's part, it shouldn't bother them too much. They still focus on survival, still not having any answer to who they are, oly more questions, such as why it was only their pods that had independent power, thus saving them.
Race info: Machines
This race does not exist YET.
Machines (Also reffered to as AI or Synthetics) Are the only self aware artificial life in the explored systems. Machines appeared in the galaxy few decades after the human nazi rebellion. They keep their origin a secret, but rumor has it it was this rebellion where they spawned from. Other theories claim that they are pa product of the New Human Empire.
Anatomy/Construction
Machines are of varying size, and shape, ranging from stationary computers through androids to self aware battleships. Even though they are very diverse, certain aspects of their technology are similar. As the technology of most races, they use inorganic hardware, however, their intelligence and self awareness is possible due to organic silicon. Silicon has the ability to form long chains like carbon in organic life forms, although not that great. By substituting carbon with silicon, the cells gain one crutial ability: Being able to use electricity as energy source. Due to their origin, silicon based cells are not built to reproduce, further eliminating the need to eat and drink. A machine is already built with personality and logic neural systems, using anorganic technology for motion, memory atc.
Life cycle
Synthetic life has the privillege of being immortal in theory. However, their hardware is still in danger of being damaged to the point that does not allow for further existence. A machine has to be constructed and activated to come to life. Machines that have means of doing so can construct other machines, though these appeare to be rare. The builder of the first machine remains unknown, though from their construction, it is obvious they are not natural evolution. Once activated, the machine is immediately ready to assume it's function. Although their form often prevents them from assuming significantly different role than that they were meant to fill, the self awareness of the machines can cause the machine to redefine it's purpose in certain limits (I.E. a battleship repurposing itself to exploration vessel, scientific computer becoming a philosopher and so on)
Machines do not reuire consumption of matter to remain alive, not even having proper organs. They are powered by electricity supplied to the nervous system, transformed to other forms of energy via piezoelectric effect in their cells. Other than neural tissue wasn't observed, instead utilizing conventional technology, with the neural tissue serving as control system.
The interesting fact about the silicon life is that it still reuires sleep, further suggesting their technology is derived from the carbon based life. Unlike carbon life, this sleep doesn't have anything to do with memory, but during the sleep, self maintaining properties of the cells are active. Scientists argue that this is because of these mechanic causing such interference, that te machine would be unable to operate normally.
Psychology
Unlike humans or any other organic life form, the architecture of the Machine nervous system is entirely of the "central nervous system", lacking any peripheries. All sensory input is through signals from conventional sensors, though they might be of the same design as the receptors of organic life.
The machines are fully self aware, complete personalities with free will, capable of displaying emotions. Unlike AIs running on conventional hardware, they cannot be controlled (but are a subject to disease). The ability to utilize the uick logic of an organic technology and the uick computation of conventional one, causes the machines' intelligence to be unmatched in the entire galaxy.
Society
Nothing is known about the machines in thsi area. In fact, noone was able to determine the actual number of active machines, as the enormous potential of their nervous system allows them to build agents, reffered to as Mechs, to interact with others. It is known that the Machines can contol Mechs and communicate in real time over unlimited range, though how is unknown to the organics. It is unknown how many agents a single machine can control, probably depending on the mass of their organic tissue. Preliminary calculations suggest that the range can be from a dozen for an android to thousands for a ship sized Machine.
Although not distinguishing gender among themselves, for the comfort of the organics, androids reffer to themselves as "he" or "she", depending on the tone of voice or the prefference of an individual, while Machines not resembling any of the organic species reffer to themselves as "it". Among themselves and the ship sized machines, they reffer to themselves usually by name or function.
Politics
The Machines do not seek neither conflict nor integration with other species. They interact with others mainly through the Mechs. Their technology is superior to that of any race, however they refuse to trade any of it. Sometimes they will gift the organics with technology that can benefit them, but this was always something along the lines of terraforming or medicine. They refuse any discussion about weaponry or anything that has the potential of being converted into a weapon.
Contrary to trade relations, they will often visit worlds occupied by the organic races to exhange knowledge, teach and help them with whatever they need. Due to the network of their agents, they also act as means of instant communication between worlds. This way, they keep a symbiotic relationship with other races, even though they are superior to all of them.
Although they are usually passive, they have shown will to actively interfere with galactic matters. In the Hamdar - Tachi war, a single machine eliminated the whole Hamdar attack fleet before it could reach the Tachi homeworld and execute genocide on their enemies. They are also fixed on helping the Shis find a suitable new planet.
Military
It is unknown if the Macines posess military in the conventional sense. Mechs ranging from battle droids to battleships have been observed. These ar usually on par or below the level of the Organics' military. However, android and battleship Machines are among the most dangerous things ever seen, being on par only with the atomic fusion bomb and particle projectors posessed by the humans on the scale of weaponry. A single android class Machine can take on a batallion of organic infantry, while a battleship might annihilate an entire fleet.
The battleship that single hadedly destroyed the Hamdar fleet was observed to use multiple weapons of unknown principle, suspected to be antimatter torpedos and dark energy emmiters. Their biggest advantage is their shielding technology that can protect them from significant damage, although this protection is not eternal. They also posess new kind of faster than light travel technology allowing them to make more frequent and precise jumps.
Known machines
- Ariaka: Android class machine. Suspected to be the first machine who constructed the other ones, developed by the human nazi faction. Disappeared after the said rebellion was resolved.
- Destiny: Battleship class machine. Annihilated Hamdar fleet.
- Icaros: Computer type machine. Stationed on the Federation homeworld, serves as the Machine's ambassador and advisor to the Federation council.
