Happy Valentine's Day! i978.photobucket.com/albums/ae262/Wiremouth/FortheLulz/happyvalentines5_zps1f38cdcb.png
Name: Daedalus (DEAD-uh-lus)
Gender: Male
Element: Water
Age: 35
Class: Mermaid
Theme: Separate Ways - Journey
Appearance: A sleek, long-bodied dragon with cream-colored scales and brown markings that fade to black and gold at his tips. He might not have wings, but he's virtually covered in translucent black fins and frills that float artfully around him in the water. Three tendrils sprout from the back of his jaw on either side.
•[Headshot]
•[Quick full-body sketch with and without general fin placement] (horns left out to better show head shape)
-He is considered over-the-top attractive by many dragon standards.
-Daedalus knows he's handsome and uses it to his advantage, but all his aesthetic appeal basically vanishes out of the water. His legs are short and spindly, and his lavish fins droop, drag, snag and tear on everything that catches them. To top it all off, he's kind of greasy in the open air, which serves to help keep him damp, but feels thoroughly unpleasant to the touch.
He stays in the water when he can help it.
-In the water, Daedalus swims much like a snake or eel, using his whole body, although his hind legs help propel him along.
-The spots along his side are photophores, light-producing organs that can emit a faint golden light at will.
-His fins don't bleed if torn in most places, though there are blood vessels that run though some parts (mostly the ribbing).
-His two rows of teeth are pointed and the inner row is slightly raked back to allow for a firmer grip on his prey. Daedalus' bite is probably his most powerful physical aspect—his jaws have a very strong grip, and rather than repeatedly attacking air-breathing prey, he instead drags it underwater and keeps it there. His neck, though thin, is quite strong from withstanding the throes of drowning prey.
Personality: His favorite game is relationships, and he intends to win 'em all. Specializes in making friends or lovers out of pretty much every dragon he meets.
Obviously, not everyone appreciates his attempts at closeness, so he simply ignores anyone who turns hims down. If they won't play his game, he won't play theirs. He's always on the move, roaming down the coasts and rarely living in one place for more than a month or two. He does this partly to meet new dragons, but partly because he doesn't actually overcome rejection as well as it would seem.
If he spends too long around someone who doesn't want to be his friend, he starts semi-consciously trying to change their mind with increasing obsession. Daedalus is a people-(or dragon-)pleaser at heart.
-He's a shameless, shameless flirt, but he goes about it with a harmlessness that can make it seem charming to most.
-Daedalus considers sirens to be his lucky sign, so he rarely makes a home without a nest of them nearby. One of the other things he does first upon making a new home is setting up a shrine to Nautilus. (There are rumors, however, that he has made a pact with a lesser demon of lust, and that the shrine is instead meant for his infernal ally. Daedalus says nothing to confirm or deny these rumors. He likes the attention either way.)
-He also likes gold rings, the color red, and deer meat. Unfortunately, there aren't many deer on the beach. D:
Mana Pool: 100 mana
Abilities:
Passive:
+Water breathing: As a water dragon, he can breathe water as freely as others breathe air.
+Attractive: Seriously (okay, maybe not), he's so handsome that it's an ability. That is all.
+Current sense: When in water, he can sense where other underwater objects and creatures are by the disturbances they create in small currents.
-Water dependency: He cannot spend more than 48 hours out of water. When 24 hours have passed, he will start to gasp like a dying fish and find it difficult to speak or breathe unless he finds enough water to dunk his head in (up to his gills). He cannot regenerate mana in this state. If 48 hours pass without water, he will die. Drinking can prolong both these times. Humidity and use of his breath weapon also affect how long he can stay out of the water.
Active:
[Close-range] Water Manipulation (0 mana): Daedalus can move up to two gallons of water without any mana cost. He can only affect water relatively close to him, and cannot move it quickly without expending mana, so this is more for simple magical tasks than attacking anybody.
[Breath weapon] Waterfall's mist (0 mana): He can exhale a fine, sparkling mist of water. Might make his target momentarily damp.
[Breath weapon] Torrent (8 mana): Daedalus releases a powerful jet of water from his mouth. This can knock back smaller targets or, if mixed with something such as sand, can rapidly abrade surfaces. If he is not in the water, this also diminishes his ability to survive outside it until he can properly rehydrate.
[Support] Water Healing (10 mana): Channels his energy through water to heal allies' wounds.
[Summon] Call of the Sea (25 mana): If in water, Daedalus summons a swarm of jellyfish to aid him. He can choose what type and how many (up to 40, if they're small), and they usually float either aimlessly or protectively around him. It's unlikely that they're actual jellies, but possibly some kind of water spirits or lesser elementals that take the form of medusa jellyfish, since he can instantly summon them wherever there is water. It is ill-advised to eat them.
He most commonly summons harmless varieties to float around him in small numbers and accent his fabulous appearance. Accessory jellyfish!
[Close-range] Aspiration (40 mana): Forces water into the lungs of a submerged air-breathing target to force the air out and accelerate drowning. He uses it frequently when hunting. While it works well on something the size of a deer, it has less effect on larger or more intelligent victims. Closing your mouth and nostrils will protect against it.
