As you can all see, the site has recently been given a shiny new look. This is convenient, because a number of us (read: basically all, what, like 5 members?) have expressed a desire to start RPing again in earnest!
Here, we can talk about what we would like to see implemented in future RPs and possible improvements to the way the game is played. I'll go first.
I'm interested in:-Reducing the power of magic and characters in general in the game, so the RPs can be challenging without having to rely on increasingly over-the-top scenarios. -On that note, less end-of-the-world, fate-of-dragonkind-rests-in-the-balance type plots. That doesn't /have/ to mean less fighting, but more character-driven stories would be nice! -Wizarrrrrds >X) -A more realized magic system, perhaps? -Elaboration on dragon culture and the mythology of DE. Questions I have for other members:-Do you think the magic system should be more rigid, or do you like the freedom the current system allows? -Your opinion on the inclusion of "Hell" in the DE mythos? Bad idea and should be scrapped entirely, or potentially an interesting source of mythology that should be built upon?

@magic: Nerf the hell out of it Wile I still believe a dragon should be stronger than a group of humans, I have to admit it got ridiculous, largely because of me xD @doomsday plots: Yes @wizards: I am till coming to dragon essence to play dragons, but you go ahead xD @culture: Complete remake. Use what is good, replace what is bad. No more spaceflight dragons either xD @hell: I'd leave it as Earth thing, but make something else (even if similar) for DE. So for me Scrap it. ----------- I'm interested in: - "Level 1 characters" - kinda like the hatchlings were supposed to be. A fresh start, since we're possibly not using the old characters Questions: - How about geography? The continent of old didn't get any love at all. I vote we abandon the dragon island idea altogether and pit them on one land.

NEEEEEEERF *nerf-zaps characters*
I like the looser magic system, though coming up with names for spells/attacks in the mana system is pretty ridiculously fun. As for "Hell," I like the idea of it just maybe being there, though perhaps not necessarily with any bearing on plots.
With regards to geography, I think one of the main problems with it was that it was incredibly difficult to be consistent about travel times and distances. (I'll confess to often writing on the ridiculously short side of those.)
I'm up for making some major changes to dragon culture if anyone else wants to, though if people are particularly attached to certain aspects, that's fine by me, too. I think I'd like to see a little shrinking of the overall dragon population, such that clans are less nations and more…well, clans. Also more maybe more loner dragons and family units that have staked out their own territories.

definately lower the power levels. i'd even forgo all powerful weapons/ powersources to try and avoid the temptation. though if we did still want some power we could still have active gods, their just restricted by some cosmic rule book that means they can't meddle too much (-or something). I'm totlly down with no more doomsday scenarios we just have to figure out how we're going to restart... i mean as far as i can see we either a) start completely fresh with new plots and characters, ditching the old ones (cuz they've gotten way to strong for our new power-playing) or b)jumping so far in the past or future that we still have our characters so old they don't fight or are dead altogether or c)start completelly new from the ground up and rebuild everything (landmass, locations, history, lore, creatures, dragons...) I'm not against wizards and may even try some out, but i like my giant lizards thank you we can make them more within the world though. I'd like to have more locations in this new world. we possible will never be able to use them all, but i'd like to know that this river isn't just a river, it's the Slate River that is one of the two branches from the Clain Ravine *shrug*. I actually feal sad we never really got to use the Crystal Burial Grounds :/ everyone got blown up in one way or another (or were too busy for a proper barial) I like shrinking the pupulation. it'll make interacting with other dragons interesting instead of "oh hey, there's a dragon. I wonder if he likes to play scriptsticks" it'll be "Huh, what's that? Another dragon. I better be careful; no telling what he'll do" (my late night stamina isn't what it use to be XP sorry if some of my thoughts make no sense)

@magic: Its Nerf *Slow motion putting on gear* or Nothing. The freedom with magic is great, I like being able to use it for mundane tasks and such. For battle though, we may want to either enforce our current system, or create a new one.
@doomsday: How about no. The doomsday stuff was great more as a finale or end to a plot, Id like to start with a more lower scale threat. Like a new land is found and its a race to explore and claim it or The kings daughter is kidnapped and we're tasked with finding her. Stuff like that.
@wizards: I really like the idea of mixed races. Dragons/wizards/chupacabras, create a kind of racial difference that could add a great deal of development.
@culture: I have no real opinion on this, mainly because I never really understood the current culture. So Imma leave that to you guys and roll with what ever you pick
@hell: Hell as like a demon or warped reality would be cool. But Id like to keep it distant, so it should be too involved. (i.e. entering or going near a portal means death. Period.)
@geography: Remake. As nice as it was to have a premade map, it was hard to get completely familiar with it, and certain areas were pretty much useless. I think if we all worked on one together we could really set up one that utilizes all terrain.
I might think of more things to add, but so far those are my thoughts.

Magic: The decision is unanimous: we need to cut down the power levels for magic. I'll try to come up with a flexible model for magic that can grow as people explore different characters and styles. We should seriously make a skype group to discuss this or something. :B It would make it so much easier to communicate! Doomsday Scenarios: Glad we all agree, the doomsday things were getting kind of ridiculous. Let's just have adventures. Culture: I am very much in support of this. B) Less civilization, more wilderness. Make the dragons less like humans and more like the mostly-solitary reptilians they were meant to beeee~ With exceptions for clan- and family- oriented dragons. I think the beliefs of ones clan should feature heavily in a dragon's backstory and personality. Maybe a section in Dragon Culture summarizing the typical upbringing and values of each clan? Think it would be neat to have customizable sub-clans, like instead of saying "all Earth dragons are wingless and heavily-built" it would be like "the earth dragons of the Something-or-Other Mountains are wingless and heavily-built, as opposed to the earth dragons of the Whatever Desert, who are lithe and vast-winged." Evolving as the world develops, so you could set aside some map-area for your dragon's clan, etc, etc, and future characters could either be from that clan too, or from a neighboring clan, or just completely unrelated fff. Geography: Nohiki talked to me about this, and I think it's a good idea. Start with a blank map then fill in the spaces as the roleplay continues. Is there some way we can set up an image that everyone can draw on? Maybe we should come up with a dragon-sized system of measurement? Like it takes "3 flight-days" to cross the Whatever Desert at its narrowest or something. That could be the legend we use on the map. It doesn't have to be accurate, but it should still be reasonable. Wizards: I like my human mages, but I think their relationship with the dragon population will depend a lot on how the geography of the world unfolds. If they are close enough to intercommunicate then it would be cool to have some places where dragons and humans clash and/or work together, but if it is like DE where the dragons and the humans are on separate continents, that would very much affect how the two groups would interact. Hell: Understood. I was getting a little carried away with the whole Hell thing, and while I still like the idea of demons, I'll try to make whatever I come up with to replace the concept a lot less ambitious and invasive. XD

@hell: Finally... XD @culture conflict & geography: How about single continent with large mountains splitting a part of it with only a few 'gates' traversable without wings? also, I don't know of a way to do a community editing on images, but I can simply make the image and a google doc along for comments and edit it as people come up with stuff. It'd be easier AND look better if only one person does it anyway. @distances and time: Gameplay > realism. If possible, don't even include time just for the sake of including time. Just go 'flown there'. That way others can be in sync if they want to jump in without worries. @culture: If you're nerfing the population, forget clans. Not enough players anymore to even justify their existence, and having one entire clan for one player is NPC bullshit. Also, i would really liek to start as "level 0 character", bunch of them meeting in a tavern (classic) and just go on adventure. Perhaps treasure hunting where we discover some dark legend that will come true, bla bla 5 players means small group, let's not even bother with culture outside of what we actually meet ingame. If the situation warants it, THEN we can talk aobut it. First let's start by getting the game going >_> @magic: If we're nerfing, I am NOT going to sacrifice variety and limit myself to like 5 skills. No way in hell which we no longer have xD

=========== IMPORTANT ===========
Are we sure we want to keep using this site? Frankly i'd feel much better if we had greater control over it. I suggest migrating to phpBB or SimpleMachines, as they allow for many more options than proboards. IF we decide to migrate, i'd devote time to archiving this site to prevent old stuff from being deleted.
Thoughts?

I am down with changing sites if I'm not the one who has to do all the archiving work. XDD Have fun with that!

The only thing keeping me from "migrating" is the time and fun placed here which would be lost if we moved. If the info was moved too i'm totally up to "migrating" and maybe helping with archiving. (You can lead in that though)

we are rebuilding the info from ground zero, i thought that was the whole point. I'd be archiving the previous stories if anything (That's assuming anyoen is actually interested in reading them again, i'm not really). The info is pretty much not gonna be valid. Also no need to delete this site, the archivbing is purely for the case all of us would forgot to make a visit and PB would take it down. I'll throw up a demo of a possible new system, because i guess it'll come down to "do we like it"
