Wizard War III AU one shot
Over the fire fortressThe sky was full of them. A few seconds after the warning torches ignited, the horizon swarmed with gyradas and their human masters, marching towards the only force that could stop them on the western shore.
"How did they get so close? Did the morning patrol report in?" The alpha asked. "They returned safely and reported nothing. I hope they didn't slack off instead of actually patrolling, or whatever is left of them after the battle will have to deal with me!" the battlemaster growled, looking over the map in the middle of the room. "They will be here in half an hour and are coming from a full arc. We're launching everyone we can but it will not be enough. We can hold them for maybe half a day, then our fighters will tire out, at which point the numerical superiority of the humans will grant them victory." Tara gave quick summary.
Thinking it over for a few seconds, Shya-Tael started giving orders: "I want a messenger sent to the Refuge. Tell Sol'Lux what is happening. She can then reach others much faster then and request help for us. I want all hunters found and recalled ASAP. Alert the ward they will have injured and exhausted inbound. Tell the guard to man the towers and provide artillery cover. Launch only two wings, I want the 3rd wing ready to launch in two hours to relieve first, then cycle, hopefully we can give ourselves more time. And send in Taranis, I have a special task for him." Tara nodded once and went to execute the orders.
In five minutes, Taranis walked through the doors. "Welcome, young man. I hope your stay here has been good?" Shya asked. "Indeed. It seems like the training is about to pay off." the lava dragon nodded. "Not today I am afraid. I need you to go and find your sister, following or failing that her former master, Fraziel, and get them here." Shya said simply. Taranis growled at her: "You want me to run from a fight? Not only that but ask for Lantea's help? You must not know who you're talking to!" he barked. Shya's fist slammed to the table: "Listen to me and listen carefully! We are outnumbered two to one. This will be no fight, this will be a slaughter unless you get out of here right now and do what I tell you! You are not part of my military, but I'll have you exiled from our territory out of spite unless you get moving right now!" the fire dragoness spat. Taranis gulped, nodded and left the room. "And pray you're back in time." Shya said, gearing up herself and headed for the fight.
The NestTaranis walked down the familiar cave, calling out for Tea, but stumbling upon someone else. "Oh, hi Ciro. Where is Tea? It's important!" he said indifferently, not wanting to admit there is a battle going on and he isn't there.
"I don't now. Searching for the light city. Fighting her way through hell to get more magic stuff from unca Isky. Gone. Dead. Take your pick, she didn't show up for years!" Ciro rambled, carrying bandages and ice. "Not even now when mom fell ill again." He said, gazing to the ground as he went. "How is she?" Taranis asked, his tone of voice changing into a subtle hint of caring. "Bad. High fevers. Shivering. Convulsions at times. when she isn't asleep, she's hurting." Ciro snapped, making Taranis do a pace back. "there's an attack in the west. A big one. I could use your help, just for a day." he said, knowing that his task of finding Tea jsut got infinitely more difficult. "Fat chance. In case you weren't listening, my mom is sick, dad is gone trying to get help for her and the Bully and the Brat aren't here for her, so I'm staying." the white dragon said bitterly. Taranis sighed: "I'll come back as soon as I can." "You do that." With that and without a goodbye, Taranis set for the north, knowing Fraziel will be easier to find.
The sky palaceHalfway over, Taranis noticed a large body of clouds that was out of place. "The sky palace, It gotta be." he whispered for himself and changed course for the storm, gaining height. Sure enough, the spires of the palace soon popped above the gray mass. Remembering the only friend Lantea ever had was an air dragoness, he hoped she could be found there.
Landing in the center of all activities on the floating island, he went straight for an important looking clerk. "Do you know where I can find Sonia by any chance?" The clerk looked up: "Why would you search for her? Do you need another of our fair maidens to incinerate?" Taranis squirmed. His performance the years back in his fight against Jet earned him a lot of rep in the fire clan ranks, but every coin has two sides. "The wizards are coning in force over the fire fortress, I need her help! And if you could spare some of your wind dancers we wouldn't mind!" he growled. The clerk perked up. "she's down below, playing with her energy friend in the storm. I'll see what I can do about the reinforcements." he said and went to work, leaving Taranis alert at the mention of an energy dragon. He took off immediately, heading under the floating piece of land.
"Missed me! Missed me! Missed me! Missed me! POW! She scores!" Sonia said as she hammered Lantea's head with her fist, easily dodging her attacks. "OK, OK! Enough training for today! Why can't we race or something?" Lantea said, rubbing her jaw. "My my, you're sloppy!" the air dragoness said cheerily. "Yeah..." Lantea said, "When I realized I'll never beat big bro in this, I spent 10 years training to engage multiple enemies instead. You know, to each his ... own?" she slowed down, noticing Sonia was gazing behind her. She turned her head around and saw a red dragon floating behind her, grinning like an idiot. "AND SURE ENOUGH, HE'S IN EAR SHOT WHEN I SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT." the blue dragoness rumbled, but put a smile on her face as she approached him. "Hey there big bro, what are you doing here?"
Taranis spent the next ten minutes describing what was happening on the western shores. "And that's why we need you, and your former master. There's too many of them... Or so they said..." he added in doubtful tone, still angry at Shya for making him leave. Lantea listened and nodded. "Sounds bad. Hey, is Ciro joining us?" "No, mom is sick, he's tending to her. something about the Bully and the Brat not being there for her..." "Oh yeah? Well I think even mom told Baby to get out a few times. He tends to tend too much sometimes." Lantea fumed, but waved it off with her hand. "I'll get us there in a second." Lantea said, preparing to cast a spell. "No, wait! I have to find Fraziel too." Lantea turned around: "Sonny, you got that?" The air dragoness gave them a thumbs up and immediately headed north. "Ok then, let's get into the brawl." Lantea said and grabbed Risi's arm, taking a breath. "Ektil'Za!" she shouted the formula, having long lost the ability to cast the spell with just a thought since she stopped practicing the ancient magic.
Over the fire fortress"I have to get back there!" Tara whined. "And do what, with that shredded arm? You're lucky the damned bird didn't beak it off!" Druid growled, "Now stay down!" he said, taking a big needle and stitching the muscle in Tara's biceps together. "Where are the reinforcements? At least the energy dragons should have gotten here by now!"
At the same time, blue sparks formed above the northern tower and spat two dragons out. Lantea snapped her fingers creating a small bolt, but a very loud thunder. The battles around stopped momentarily, all eyes pointing at her and Taranis. Several of the humans old enough to remember her work on the continent growled. The one that looked like the leader commended his mount to approach.
"Ah, Lantea! I was hoping you'll be here. I want you to know that your head will be the most treasured trophy in my hall!" "Hmmm, 'That right?" She said, her arms crossed on her chest, "Oh, no, 'think not. You're gonna lose."
"Oh, is that a fact?"
"Yes."
"And how do you suppose that will happen? Look around you, the fire dragons are almost done, and noone else will arrive in time. Face it, soon you will be at your rightful place, as our slaves!"
Lantea's face narrowed.
"I'll tell you how. Once in a while, there is always someone threatening us. What you boneheaded creatures fail to comprehend is that the creators of this world created us in their image. Oh yes, we are their favorite. And that is why they left us with the chosen one to protect us. Have you ever heard of the Guardian? The two so far have always been in my family."
"Ah, yes, and where are they now?"
"I got one right here. Let me ask you: Do you know that True power is?" She said, clenching her fists and letting out a terrible roar. Suddenly, there was a great wind around the place, forming the clouds above into a gray vortex, completely obstructing the sun. The wizard leader backed away as lightning came out of the louds, gathering around Lantea. "No..." Taranis growled for himself, "She is NOT a Guar... She can't be! That would make her stronget than I am!" he said to no one in particular, just as Lantea turned gold with one final snarl, residual charge lashing from her and electrocuting several of the wizard that gathered too close.
When the humans dared to open their eyes again, they saw a golden dragoness with lightning aura sparkling around her. Some of them nervously turned around to gaze over the sea, thinking about retreating home.
"I'm bluffing, but it looks like they're buying it. come on, brother, let's show them what our kin is made of!" Lantea thought to Taranis, seeing as her little show succeeded in putting fear in the enemy's heart. With that, she let out a battle cry and summoned her Tormenta fuerza. A few dozen more gyradas fell towards the ground, burned to crisp. Joining her roar, the fire dragons went back into battle.
