Gorn didn't see the rainbow beam, but he could feel something was wrong. Completely ignoring his hangover he rushed to lake and pushed through the crowd. "PHO! Whats going on?" He dropped next to her and held her. Not even a second after she came back, "Oh thank gods, what happened?"

"That's what I'm trying to find out." said Ciro to Thoron, speeding up only to be later overtaken by the much larger dragon. A bunch of spectators seemed to have gathered around the place where the signal had originated. Catching sight of Phoenicia's inert form through the crowd, he cried: "Hey, back off! That's my mom!" Frustrated, he flew up over the crowd and landed in the small perimeter being maintained by the rest of the family. An older dark dragon was addressing Phoenicia, and Sol'Lux was being talked to by the giant dragon from before. "What's going on?" he whispered to Lantea, hushed by the sense of gravity that seemed to have fallen over the gathering.

"Like i've been torn into itty bitty pieces yet kept my form." She replied to the shadow medic. "I'll be fine, i'll be fine." she reassured her family after the crowd dispersed. With heavy breath, she turned around and stood on he rown legs. They felt jelly and weak, and she was still trembling. "Phoenicia, how many?" Sol'Lux asked urgently. If Phoenicia infected anyone, they needed to quarantine them. "In what time would you gather? Three months?" She asked and Sol nodded. "Nobody. the only candidate was miss botany over here," she winked at Lantea who pouted on her in return, "But i chose it would be educating to let her have stitches once in a while. Not that my wish has been obeyed." she shot a look at Ciro. "I think we're safe. Or, the rest of the world is." "Not exactly." Sol'Lux said, pointing to her wrist Phoenicia healed a day ago. "We'll see if it jumped soon enough, but the two of us need to go. Now. there are too many people here." She said, deadly serious. Phoenicia nodded: "Your place? allright. This is so not how i imagined my day." She looked over at Gorn, Lantea and Ciro: "Well, at leas you're getting some daddy time, kids." she said, with a hint of sinister smile on her face. Three younglings sometimes gave her a headache. "And you keep an eye on them," she pointed at gorn, "Especially the fire spitter. They're the only ones i'll ever have." "Tea, would you?" Sol'Lux said. The blue dragoness nodded and blue sparks surrounded Phoenicia and Sol'Lux, transporting them to Sol's cave. Lantea felt crushed. Jsut a minute ago, she was feeling best since she got her sight back, but that didn't matter now. It seemed like her family was cursed to be stripped of every joy. She knew her mom would want her to have fun here, but she wasn't sure she could, and she definitely didn't feel like entering the arena anymore.

"All of them...?" Dinara whispered, unsure of the who Pheonicia was talking about, but by the way she had been acting it must have been important, and Dinara felt something strange... "Wait, what-?!" Once again she was too late for Pheonicia before the light dragonesses teleported away, leaving dread in their wake. Dinara growled in frustration. Looking over to the rest of the family she sighed, her frustration waining slightly as she let the tide of it ebb like she practiced not too long ago. "I'm sure you'll be able to see her again. You light dragons are resiliant." "I don't know," Zephyr whispered, coming up beside her. He would have made it sooner then Ciro if it wasn't for Isis insisting for his attention. Before Zephyr could say anything else Dinara whacked him across the head with a wing, glaring at him. He cried his irritation, but Dinara had already turned her attention back to the others. Starlight chose the moment to pipe in, "Come on, i thought i heard some dragons had traded a bunch of 'paint' from some villages. They've set up by the base of the tree using it as the canvas. Lets go grab some." "You mind filling me int?" she thought loudly out to Sol'Lux.

"Paint?" Ourias gasped, his eyes widening in overwhelmed delight. "They actually have paint this year? Yeah!" he shouted, punching the air with a wing before scampering away to the painting area.
------
The shadow dragon paced eagerly back and forth past the bowls of paint, craning his neck to see into each one. He'd only ever worked with the earthy colors he could find around his parents' den, smears of yellow and brown and rust-orange, and daubs of red or white from his father's supplies. But here . . . a rich indigo caught his eye, and he stopped in front of it. The Ancient Tree's smooth bark stretched blankly in front of it, inviting an artist. Ourias bowed his head briefly, and then stepped up to the living canvas, swiping his clawtips through the midnight-blue paint along the way

Ciro wasn't even sure how to react. He'd come in to find a bunch of dragons gathered around his prone mother and now she and Sol'Lux had to leave for some reason? He approached his father and sat down, curling his tail around himself protectively. "What's happening, dad? Why are mom and Sol leaving?" Everyone was being so cryptic, and yet he seemed to be the only one who had no idea what was going on. He couldn't even think of going off and painting right now. His mother had been in danger while he'd been off exploring some worthless lakebed. But what could he do? If Sol'Lux herself looked grim, what hope did he have of helping?

Lantea waited until everyone left but her family and filled the two in. "It's something called Magia Mortis, or in our language, death of magic." She shivered at the last three words. "Very rare disease, thought to be gone, but apparently Ma got it somehow. and while it can't be cured and as the name suggests, it impairs any and all magic use, i think Mom will be fine." she smiled reassuringly. Phoenicia was not a fan of magic anyway, preferring punches in a fight and and crafting for fun. "It's Grandma i'm worried about. It can spread through magic, and healing is no exception. She is weak enough already with the battles she fought. If it jumped to her... Well, let's hope not. What won't let me sleep now is the fact that mom got it from SOMEWHERE, and it is not airborne. That means it has to be a water source. Probably not back at home though, 'cuz we're fine." she went on thinking out loud for some more.
"we might be sick. Badly. that is, Phoenicia IS. I might." Sol'Lux thught back at Starlight, choosing not to reveal more to avoid spoiling her friend's day. For a second she thought about how many might gather at her deathbed. Then she banished the thought. She didn't feel like leaving, and anyone who tries to make her has a big fight on their hands, be it a small critter inside of her.

Starlight put on a smile, but her eyes were hollow of laughter, spinning on her heal she sped off to furious painters. "Paint me." "Eh?" "I need a bucket of paint. Yellow, and blue." the dragon looked to another who had become interested and was listening in. The second one gave a shrug, "Ok," the first said, "Over there." He pointed his brush of grass to the barels. Not wasting time Starlight snatched up a bucket and a stiring spoon. When she got back she shoved the blue one into Dinara's hands. Next thing she did was did was take a blob of the yellow and flung it at Ciro.
(ooc: she's trying to lighten all the kids moods. they may be mature in some regards but hopefully they haven't lost all their childness.)

Lantea watched the paint impact with her mouth wide open in surprise. then her lips twisted into a vampire grin. "Watch what i learned yesterday." she grinned at Gorn and Ciro and walked up to Starlight full of herself. She stood right in front of the elder dragoness and dipped her claw in the paint, drawing a jagged line on her breastplates. "Ba'al Koruk" she whispered and jumped away. A small cloud gathered above Starlight and started raining, only above her.

Starlight shook her head to try and clear her eyes, but grinned at the success so far. "Runes, little one? Heheh, well, you shall feal my wrath, of paint!" Throwing out a brush full of paint at the same time as her last forceful words. Finally catching her mothers drift Dinara sloshed a streak of her blue paint at Zephyr and threw a handful at Gorn.

Ciro stood frozen in shock as the paint dripped down his scales. He could hear laughter behind him. His face went flush with pent-up grief and humiliation. Eyes stinging with tears, he raced towards the edge of the lake, fruitlessly turning invisible as he went, the yellow paint revealing his location even as he rose into the air. Trails of iridescent yellow washed out behind him as he plunged into the cooling water, clouds of bubbles erupting from his mouth with each blubbery sob.

Gorn still wasn't sure what to make of all this, Pho was losing her magic? How could that even be possible? His thoughts were interrupted by Ciro running off in tears. "Hey, Ciro, wait!" He almost took off after him but an ice dragon's arm stopped him. "You s-s-stay here. I'll go talk t-t-to him." Frost said dropping his arm. "Thanks for the offer, but hes my son and he needs me now." Gorn argued. "So does your daughter. R-R-Right now you need to keep her m-m-m-mind off of all this, and leaving her now will onl-l-ly dampen her spirits more." Gorn gave a sigh knowing that Frost was right. "Trust me, I'll t-t-t-take care of him. Now, duck." Frost scurried off just as Gorn turned to meet a blue paint blob. Slowly he reached up and with two fingers drew lines under his eyes. "Oh its on." Teleporting from there to the paint stand and grabbing two buckets of pink and orange, then teleporting to the smith and "borrowing" some of their supplies, he teleported right back. Now with two arm mounted paint hoses pointed at his opponents. "Now I know what you're asking. How did he make those so fast? The answer is, SCIENCE!" He pressed the buttons on each and began firing.
Frost dove into the lake and followed the trail of yellow, freezing a tunnel straight towards it. "Hey kid, n-names Frost. You can take the spell off now, I'v l-l-learned to see through all illusion spells. Point is, I'm here to talk to you."

Lantea dove under Gorn's artillery. Wide grin appeared on her face. With a song on her lips, she backed out of the range and snapped her finders, one of the hoses instantly turning right into Gorn's face. A devilish laughter sounding like boulders rolling down a hill escaped her throat as she scrammed to avoid expected crossfire from both sides.

Thoron turned the last second from the place the light dragon was teleported and was drilled in the face by a jet stream of paint arcing from the great tree. The giant had his eyes closed at the time when the paint made contact, so when he opened his eyes you could see his right eye glowing slowly red under the blue and yellow colors dripping off his spines.

Ourias felt something splatter on his horns and drip down his neck, staining his right shoulder pink. He whirled and sighted both his attacker and a fresh tray of white paint. The shadow dragon sloshed his tail through the paint and charged, taking to the air at the last moment to lash gobs of paint in a ring around him. He hit the ground on all fours and dashed away from the fray to return to his painting. He hunched over and spread his leathery wings to protect his work from the paint fight. Streaks of indigo and deep blue and darkest purple overlapped across the Ancient Tree's bark, smeared on by the palms of his hands. Ourias readied his tail again and flicked a fine spatter of white flecks across the stripes of darkness, and repeated it again until the canvas seemed to open into a starlit night sky. He dipped his claw in black paint and, against the brightest patch of stars, etched the silhouette of a dragon in flight, looking frequently to his own outstretched wings.
------
"Why do you always seem to be at the center of these things?" Shya asked with a grin, ducking under a stray glob of paint and making her way towards Starlight.
