Dinara snickered at Firehearts reaction."Sure, but I don't think there is anything that would help except more energy. See with every foot you go more water is pressing down on you. Anyway, I'll lead. Tell me when the pressure gets to be too much, don't need you to pass out on me 1000 feet bellow water. And don't worry if your ears pop." Then she started along the bottom again until the desent was more like a drop, then she dived down at a slow pace.

Fireheart followed. Moving around in the water was harder as the pressure was building up, but not impossible. It was getting harder to breathe much faster. "It would help if the water was even warmer, it would have lower density and thus lower pressure. And heating water takes quite a lot so me heating it is not an option. I could try the shield, hold on." he said and the light shell enveloped him. He modified it's shape to save as much energy as possible. The water around him started to evaporate. "I think i can hold it for 10 minutes, give or take 2. But there are setbacks. I can't recharge as there is no light in the depth, and we'll need me to divert some energy to that so we ca find anything. That shortens it to five minutes. Furthemore, i can't see a thing through the bubbles. So we'll need something better. Ideas?" he said and noticed a shark coming their way. "Oh, i've heard those are delicious!"

"I told you." Dinara said, stopping her decent to look up. "From the look of the light and the pressure i would guess we're a bit deeper then 1000 feet. You got farther then I expected." She stopped looking up and swam up to be level with Fireheart. "I don't have too much trouble with energy seeing as I'd only have to filter the water for you and our riders." There was a pause, "What about crystals? My mom said that your mom told her you could take energy from crystals. Then maybe you could also store up energy and put the extra in the stones."

"Well, in essence it works the same as the Elemental hearts. It is just like if you had a chunk of ice and took the elemental energy from it, just like i do with the sunlight, only it is much more concentrated and in case of wind, light and others, given physical form. I only created something similar once, when i had Mom's star powers, and it still drained me to almost a zero, so unless you brought your elemental hearts with you, i guess that idea pretty much falls. Maybe you can regenerate deeper because the water is quite chilly even here. But i have no way of replenishing, so once i'm out i'll need to get to the surface. BUT, just how hard ice you can make? Do you think that an armor of sorts would work?" he said while pointing at the shark. Then he tried to fire, but instead of laser beam he made quite impressive rainbow. "Uh, that will require some getting used to." he said and tried to compensate while thinking further about the descent.

"If you were in a tube yes. The surounding ice would take the pressure, armor wouldn't work because of all the gaps. But ice is lighter then water, it would take more energy then it's worth to drag you down. Though I guess we could leave that option. And I mean you'd go find a earth dragon, ask for some pure crystals and use them as energy cells. Think of them as solid energy herbs."

"Hmmh, or we may try something different, something they use on the first colony. I took few souveniers you know. I don't know how much you know about it, but a lot of dragons there is colored white and none has natural control of elements - because they didn't have clans and stuff like that and they mixed, their powers degenerated and vanished. In order to survive they learned to use spirits of nature as an 'external' source of magic, if you will. I think i packed the ingredients and formulas for their summoning, we might ty that. About the crystals, i never tried that, but i have the info on how to make them. I guess that if we try this or that or both, it has probably the same chance to succeed. But in that case we better find an earth pair. we... did meet one already, right? The pub guys." thought Fireheart out loud while starting to ascend slowly to prevent the decompression sickness.

"Woah, no element? And you thought these bonded pairs were weird." "If we can get help without tipping off any of the population then that would be grand. Dinara followed behind Fireheart, just in case. Then a thought occurred to her. Looking around she saw the shark was still within sight. "Watch a true fisher at work." Flipping around she dived down again to come up under the shark, then came up at it's under belly and smashed it over the head. It stopped swimming and started to float down to her. Catching it she saw it was nearly the size of her arm. "Man, these suckers are big. Back home their half this big." Dinara swam back with ease even with her load. Usually you take them out like any other food but sharks have a keen sense of smell for blood. Didn't want to spill any with your... experience."

"I'm not sure if the dragons of the First didn't actually made a lot from it. see, now they are all able to use multiple elements. Unlike us, however, not in the same time. I wonder if our world ever reaches that state, or if the elemental dragons had time to learn from their mistake and prevented that from happening somehow. Anyway, now that it occured to me, i should probably practice this knowledge and make sure it is passed on through the generations, just in case they didn't, right?" he thought out loud while Dinara was showing her skills. "As i said, not all of us have fins." he shrugged and noticed they're almost up. "Now this should be challenging..." he said, put his hands down and focused. It took him few seconds, but he manaded to ignite a flame under the water. Thhen he boosted the energy and the thrust took him up above the surface. "Nope, i can't work under water. This was even bigger energy hog than the shield." he said and headed to the beach to dig through his stuff.

Dinara stayed in the water, lounging around in it a bit more, after throwing the shark inland. "If you hadn't noticed there is already multiple element crosses. You, me and so many others are proof of that."

"Well, from what i understood it started that way as well. Evolution and regression takes time, thousands of years minimum. Their powers were getting mixed and weaker over the centuries, and then they vanished completely. Imagine for example if we had a child, and it inherited all four elements, it would be really unlucky as ice supresses fire and fire supreses water. Serious mess." he said while gathering some wood and litting the fire. "Or, if we are somehow protected from this kind of degeneration, and i think we should be, it was some time after that when Dragon essence was seeded, The water and fire would be cancelled out by the rest and that leaves just light and ice, single or both." he theoretized and put the shark on the fire. "I am looking forward to this meal."

Dinara only nodded absently. The conversation had turned very awkward very fast. "When eating it watch for teeth." She mumbled.

"Actually, i don't like eating fish heads. though i've seen a lot of people to do it." he mentioned andsliced part of the fish, trying it. "Hmh, not bad, but it's missing something..." he said, hovering higher above the ground so he could see farther. "There." he pointed to a tree. he flown there, and returned in a minute with hand full of olives. "Much better." he said, searching in his bag for something. then he smiled and pulled out a scroll with victorious smile. "And here it is." he said, "Notes from the trip to First." he explained, and rolled the pergamen open. Aside from writing, there was a complete map, including and underwater city of the amphibious race, and down on the floor fell few items. "OH OH HO!" shouted Fireheart and carefully picked them up. "Some of those also serve to summon the spirits i told you about. Well, now it!s up to your expertise. Which two will be the most helpful? Because from some of the ingredients, i have only one piece." he said and took a blue crystal as an example. "The everfrost crystal. A piece of Frostelus' own scale. A chunk of ice that will never melt. Used to summon the ice spirit."

"Whatever you think would be best." Dinara said with a shrug, reaching out she took a strip of the shark and nibbled it as she floated along.

"If i understand right, the problem is oxygen and pressure. If one of us controls the air spirit, oxygen is solved as it is summoned easily. As for the water spirit, we ahve a problem. It only comes on it's own, so if the water pressure doesn't crush us, the air pressure will. BUT... We may try to summon the energy one, as that would help with creating a negative forcefield to keep the water away. It should only require a lot of focus to summon it. And finally, Earth spirit. I never learned how to summon that one, so i think that problem is pretty much solved. Try to draw this. It may take some time before the air spirit responds, but it should always do." he showed the rune to draw to Dianra, while himself trying the energy spirit.

"You know, I could filter the water for you. It's not really that hard." Dinara said, but got out of the water any way and took the paper. Shaking water off her hand and tail she set to work engraving the rune into the ground.
